Suspension of Classes February 22, 2013

Some local government units in Metro Manila and nearby areas have announced suspension of classes on February 22, 2013 due to bad weather. They are as follows:

MANILA: "Classes suspended in public elementary, high schools and colleges (City-owned only) today, February 22. Suspension of classes for private and non-government schools will be upon the discretion of your school. (via Mayor Alfredo Lim)" - GMA News

Duterte Suspends Monday Classes In Davao City

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has announced suspension of classes from kindergarten to high school in Davao City on Monday, January 21, 2013.

"On the basis of the PAGASA 24-hour Public Weather Forecast issued at 5am on January 20, 2013, all classes are suspended tomorrow, January 21, Monday from kindergarten to high school. Thank you," reads a post on Davao City government's official Facebook page.

Over the weekend, the city experienced heavy rains which caused floods in 12 barangays along Davao River and other areas including Matina Gravahan, Jade Valley, NCCC Subdivision, Deca Tigatto, GEM and Don Julian Maa, and San Rafael. Evacuation of affected individuals has been initiated.

According to Davao City's Public Safety and Security Command Center, more than 20 families are still trapped in different areas as of posting time. FULL STORY...

Suspension of Classes September 17, 2012

Suspension of classes on Monday, September 17, 2012, has been announced in the following schools:

Tagalag Elementary School
Taytay, Rizal from pre-school to elementary in both public and private schools

Some parts of Metro Manila experienced heavy rainfall on Sunday. The state weather bureau said  it was due to the enhanced southwest monsoon.

Suspension of Classes August 10, 2012

Suspension of classes on August 10, 2012 (Friday) has been announced by local government units and schools because of the effects of the southwest monsoon over Metro Manila and parts of Luzon this week.

There are no classes in the following areas on August 10:

Suspension of Classes Advisories For August 9, 2012 (Thursday)

Important Update (8:29 p.m., August 8, 2012): 

Malacañang has suspended August 9 classes in all levels—including postgraduate courses— in the National Capital Region, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal. There will be work in national government and private offices. This is according to Memorandum Circular 34 issued by Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr Wednesday evening.

With several areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces still flooded and some areas under "State of Calamity," affected local government units may opt to suspend classes on Thursday, August 9, 2012.

As of posting time (11:50 a.m, August 8), the University of Santo Tomas in Manila has suspended Thursday classes.

"Classes in UST remain suspended until tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012." tweeted The Varsitarian, the school's official student publication.

Update:  According a DZMM Teleradyo report on Twitter, San Mateo, Rizal has also announced class suspension from elementary to high school.

"Klase sa San Mateo, Rizal bukas, Aug 9, elem to high school (public), suspendido pa rin." it tweeted.

Adamson University also canceled classes on Thursday.

"Classes and work at all levels still suspended for tomorrow, August 9. Again, please stay safe Adamsonians." the school said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) have denied rumors circulating online that they have announced suspension of classes from August 7 to 10, 2012.

Suspension of Classes August 7, 2012
Several local government units and schools in Metro Manila and nearby provinces have announced suspension of classes on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 due to bad weather.

Important Update (2:20 a.m.): The Malacanang has released a memo regarding suspension of work and classes on Tuesday. Read it below:

"Upon the recommendation of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and in view of the continuing inclement weather brought about by southwest monsoon (habagat), work in government offices and classes in college level in the National Capital Region and the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal are hereby suspended today, 07 August 2012.

However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital public services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.

Suspension of Classes August 2, 2012
Classes will remain suspended in the following schools in Valenzuela City on Thursday, August 2, 2012:

6. Pio Valenzuela Elementary School

The city of Navotas has also announced suspension of classes in all levels (pre-school to college), public and private on August 2 due to flooding brought about Typhoon "Gener."

Classes up to the high school level in Longos, Taniong, San Agustin, Tonsuyo, Dampalit and Panghulo in Malabon will be suspended as well.

In Bulacan, classes are still suspended in Obando (all schools, all levels), Hagonoy West (all preschool and elementary schools), San Ildefonso (all schools, all levels), Hagonoy East (Hagonoy East CS, San Sebastian and Teodora Cruz only), Paombong (Masukol, Sta Cruz and Binakod only) and Saluysoy, according to a tweet by the Department of Education.

Meanwhile, classes in all levels, public and private, in whole Benguet as well as in Baguio are suspended due to heavy rains and strong winds.

There are also no classes in  Bacoor City, Cavite City, Ternate, (preschool to highschool, public and private) and Imus (kinder to elementary only) in Cavite.

There will be no classes in some schools on Monday, July 23, 2012 to make way for the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

DepEd: San Pablo City, Laguna: Mayor Amante has declared suspension of classes in all levels tomorrow, July 23.

Schools division superintendent Corazon Rubio had said 10 high schools and 19 elementary schools located in roads leading to the Batasang Pambansa will be allowed to cancel classes "to minimize traffic congestion." They are as follows:

Elementary: Bagong Silangan ES, Benigno Aquino ES, Commonwealth ES, Corazon Aquino ES, Culiat ES, Doña Juana ES, Fairview ES, Holy Spirit ES, Lagro ES, Lupang Pangako ES, Manuel L. Meanwhile, Valenzuela City Mayor Gatchalian has declared suspension of classes (elementary and HS) tomorrow, July 23, due to continuous rains, the DepEd reported on its official Twitter account.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday raised the red warning signal over nine cities in Metro Manila due to the high amount of rainfall recorded in these areas. Suspension of Classes June 28, 2012 Guidelines DepEd
This is to reiterate the new guidelines of cancellation and suspension of classes by the Department of Education (DepEd).

Rules On Automatic Cancellation/Suspension of Classes:

a. When Signal No. 1 is raised by PAGASA, classes at the pre-school level, in the affected area, shall be automatically canceled or suspended.

b. When Signal No. 2 is raised by PAGASA, classes at the pre-school, elementary and secondary levels, in the affected area, shall be automatically cancelled or suspended,

c. When Signal No. 3 or higher is raised by PAGASA, classes at pre-school, elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels, in the affected area, including graduate school, as well as work in all government offices, shall be automatically cancelled or suspended.

Signal numbers declared at 10:00 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. of the following day are deemed automatic cancellation or suspension depending on the appropriate class level.

On the other hand, signal numbers declared at 11:00 a.m. automatically calls for cancellation or suspension of afternoon classes, based on the appropriate class level.

Teaching personnel handling cancelled or suspended classes are likewise allowed to leave their stations in consideration of the work they will need to undertake during make-up classes.

Rules On Localized Cancellation/Suspension of Classes and Work:

In the absence of typhoon signal warning from PAGASA, localized cancellation/suspension of classes in both public and private school and work on government offices may be implemented by the local chief executives in their capacity as chairperson of the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMC).

Thus, concerned local DepEd and private school officials are directed to establish effective lines of communication with the respective local government units (LGUs).

Meanwhile, Secretary Luistro said any decision to cancel or suspend classes must come from the local government, but that a school head may cancel or suspend classes only in cases where urgent action is needed to prevent loss of life or bodily harm.

As stated in Sec. 2, EO 66, LGU officials are expected to announce cancellation or suspension of classes not later than 4:30 a.m. for whole day cancellation or suspension or not later than 11:00 a.m. for afternoon cancellation or suspension.

No announcement should originate from the DepEd. If interviewed by media, announcements should always be made in reference to what PAGASA has already announced in areas under a typhoon signal and to local chief executives in the absence of a typhoon signal, Secretary Luistro said. FULL STORY...
