The "Miss Saigon" film, which tells the tragic love story between a Vietnamese bar girl and an American soldier before the fall of Saigon in 1975, will reportedly be helmed by Lee Daniels, who directed the Academy Award winning 2009 movie "Precious."

JS is no way near to fit the role, she still too young(the role is rated R), her voice is growling & curly (while the role shud sing it plain with no other special voice effects)...
The article refers to the 3 as young PINAYS. Does Jessica consider herself a PINAY or an Asian? Doubt it! She said in AI she's a big daddy's girl and he's a Mexican-American.

This only happens once in a generation & that you people shud realize to celebrate her success & accept that she has made a huge leap of success in hollywood like no other did. She made history already in music now also in movies... In which way?
IMO, this voting has no mean other than put Chasters and BlueJays against each other (again).
I think Mackintosh, Schönberg and Boublil is after "talent" rather than "classy", and Charice has the talent, and looks for this role, even the certain level of class that you think is required. Is worldwide fame and appreciation, countless standing ovations, recurring role in the number 1 tv musical show and billboard rating songs not class enough for you? Or do you refer to a lack of class because of Charice's humble beginnings? This Megia or Ramiele or whoever is not classier than Charice in anyway just because they were raised in the US. Charice has achieved far more than any contemporary filipino pop musical artist has ever achieved in mainstream hollywood, and if she's not of class, i dont think she will be able to wow worldwide audiences. I think Charice should play Ms Saigon - she deserves it and is way way above Thia Megia in acting and singing skills. If you see Charice now, she is beautiful and hot and suits the role well. She also has that "spunk" that is required in a Ms Saigon role - an innocent girl who also knows how to fight for her son, her man, and has the convincing angst to contemplate suicide (as the role requires). Anna Maria de Tagle can be an effective Gigi, and ohh alright include Thia Megia as one of the vietnamese dancers - in fact giver her singing and speaking portions (the movie version is usually a bit changed from the play) but dont let her play Kim. This would be a good stepping stone for Thia and she should be grateful to even be included. Definitely only someone as unique and spectacular and audience-wowing-everywhere as Charice deserves the Ms Saigon role. Ohh and commercially speaking, a movie casting her would definitely earn more than those other girls, because she's already a worldwide sensation.

ReplyDeleteI grew up idolizing superstar nora (guy) aunor of the philippines, but since I've been here in America since 1979 I don't know any singers in the phils because I don't have filipino tv channels. it happened I received a forwarded email that was also sent to lots of contacts (viral emails) this girl singing so great and kinda jolly way of dancing in the starking korea tv show life performance, the girl was named charice pempengco my first time to hear and saw, I was awed and merzmerized, I've watched that em-video of charice singing, many times in a day, and daily, then the next day I was watching ellen degeneres tv show and she was paging that girl charice and she wants her over her tv show and sit there w/ her and finally the next day or following day she said she contacted charice and will be there in her show, I was happy and really made that day and hour not to forget to watch it and yes, I was so elated in her performance, I was screaming alone in my living rm watching her in my Sony HDTV 65" and like I was watching fr big screen, seeing her all performed, like hit a jackpot. awesome, happy to watch her. thanks ellen degeneres. and then from oprah winphrey, who made charice the most talented girl in the world, thanks oprah. and thanks david foster, for making charice dreams comes true and also we got to see her more here in america. ReplyDeleteHonestly, if they were to pick one of the three, it would have to be Thia. She's got the attractiveness for the screen and the voice for a blockbuster mainstream Broadway type movie, like Dreamgirls. Now if they want to go gritty like Precious, then it would have to be Charice. She's got something in her eyes that says that she's been through hell, but she's a fighter --- neither Thia nor Jessica have that look. They both look like Pageant Princesses. Thia looks too high brow to be playing a street hooker and Jessica doesn't look Asian enough.

ReplyDeleteCharice and Jessica can both sing. Their beauty are both fine coz they both look Asian and make up will do the trick. I prefer Jessica because she is skinny and most Vietnamese I know are super skinny. Also, from watching Glee last season, Charice can't act and has no presence. From Jessica's cricket commercial, she can seem act. I haven't heard Thia high range in singing. The role fits Jessica better.

ReplyDeleteAll these childish reasons like nationality, sexual orientation, etc, as basis for choosing the right girl for the role of Kim are plain stupid and ignorant. These 3 young ladies have unique singing talents of her own. The producers are likely looking for that one girl who possesses the overall talents and qualities best suited for the part. i don't know much about Thia and what she has accomplished lately. Jessica, as talented as she is as a singer, is too young, does not have the Vietnamese looks and her ability to act has yet to be proven. Charice OTOH, aside her internationally proven and acceptance as a phenomenally talented and versatile singer, has the background (coming from humble beginnings), the Chinese looks prominent among Vietnamese and may I add, a gorgeous pair legs, and acting experience (her small parts in Glee has proven it ). As one commentator stated, let her grow her hair, slim down a bit and you have one gorgeous Kim. I have met and spoken with Charice on a few occasions in the the more than 3 years I have been following her. She is one terrific, down-to-earth young lady that does not let fame and fortune get into her head. The bottom line is I vote for Charice.

ReplyDeleteThe movie would be more believable if they have someone who looks and SPEAKS with an authentic Vietnamese accent and can act. Don't think it's all about the voice. Look at Les Miserables musical movie that is coming out with Anne Hathaway as lead. She can sing (not as amazing as Leah or other lead star in the musicals), but she can act! Saw the preview, she even shaved her long hair for real. I'm sure the Miss Saigon producers don't need our help in choosing someone. GIVE IT AT REST...

ReplyDeleteKim is a poor bar girl in Vietnam. She won't be fluent in English! You need someone who can can speak with a Vietnamese accent to make it authentic. Charice is the only one who speaks another language which makes it easier to pull it off. She knows how to switch from one accent to another.

Charice catch all the audience and specially one of the strong woman in the world Oprah.I don't think that Oprah took her for charity case only but million of audience attract with her voice no doubt she was been magnetize with that gift voice.I was one of them cried for every music she played, even my Canadian husband hard to convince to listen to pilipino singer ,I just put the CD and suddenly he ask me wow ! terrific voice and he was very proud to tell to some friends and family about Charice. They start to listen and no wonder we are getting ready to see her movie today Here Comes the Boom with Kevin James here in Edmonton Alberta.
well, well... it's been a battle for charice's & jessica's fans. well, my vote goes to thia megia! why is that? because she has the distinct asian look & built plus the her broadway type of voice... i like both jessica & charice, they are powerhouses when it comes to singing but the suppose kim must have the asian look... it perfectly fits her! we just need to know if she can act... and she'll be the perfect choice! well, that's just my humble opinion...
