A first in 20 years, the Philippines will be represented by 16-year-old figure skater Michael Christian Martinez in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Martinez finished seventh in the Men's Event at the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany last week, earning a ticket to the Winter Olympic Games in Russia next year.

The Pinoy teen started skating in 2005 after discovering the sport in a shopping mall ice rink. He began competing in 2008 and has since collected over 100 medals and trophies. He won his first senior international title at the Crystal Skate of Romania last year.

A home-grown talent, Martinez received early this year P1 million from SM Ice Skating to help him achieve his Olympic dream.
