The monster struck was bounding over a pile of cars when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, which plowed into the horrified crowd.

According to authorities, the accident, which took place during the Extreme Aeroshow in the city of Chihuahua on Saturday, could have been caused by a mechanical failure.

The driver of the truck was detained Sunday on suspicion of negligent homicide. The set-up of the show is also being investigated for possible safety violations.

More than 40 of those hurt remained in the hospital early Sunday.

The show was organized and heavily promoted by Chihuahua officials, attracting about 4,000 people. The rest of the three-day show was canceled after the accident.
