A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook North Cotabato and other parts of Mindanao Monday morning, July 15, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to Philvocs, the quake struck at 9:28am and centered at 7km northeast of Carmen, North Cotabato. The quake, which was 4km deep and tectonic in origin, was felt at the following intensities:

Intensity V- Carmen, North Cotabato
Intensity IV- Kabacan and Matalam, North Cotabato
Intensity III- Tagum City, Davao del Norte
Intensity II- Kidapawan City; Koronadal City, South Cotabato

An aftershock, with had a magnitude reading of 4.1, followed at 11:51 am, it said.

There were no immediate reports of damage and casualties from the two quakes.

The Philippine Archipelago is part of the "Ring of Fire," a vast area in the Pacific where continental plates collide, causing frequent quakes.
