Earthquake in the Philippines November 5, 2012
An earthquake with a Richter Scale reading of magnitude 4.0 struck Pangasinan, Philippines today, November 5, 2012.

The Philippine Institute Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the temblor hit at around 4:40 p.m. and centered at 21km northeast of San Manuel, Pangasinan.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin and was 21km deep, was felt at Intensity IV in its epicenter, Intensity III in Baguio City and Intensity II in Dalayap, Tarlac; La Trinidad, Benguet; and La Union, Pangasinan.

Phivolcs added that damage and aftershocks are unlikely.

Meanwhile, the institute also recorded the following earthquakes earlier today:

12:28 AM: Magnitude 4.9, Sarangani, Davao del Sur
07:46 AM: Magnitude 5.2, Sarangani, Davao del Sur
08:55 AM: Magnitude 5.1, Sarangani, Davao del Sur
02:35 PM: Magnitude 3.4, Jomalig, Quezon

There were no reports of damage or casualties from the quakes.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where continental plates collide, causing frequent earthquakes.
