Filipino Architect Rafael Nelson Aboganda-Designed Escherian Stairwell In RIT, Real Or Hoax?

A so-called Escherian stairwell designed by a Filipino architect named Rafael Nelson Aboganda and located in Rochester Institute of Technology in New York has been featured on a viral Youtube video.

Escherian Stairwell Hoax (Youtube Screengrab)
The said staircase is said to violate the laws of physics and basic logic by looping back into itself.

The clip shows some students, who step on the stairs for the first time, brought to amazement after finding out that it is indeed a never-ending staircase.

But no, the video is just a hoax and there is no Escherian stairwell that exists in RIT nor elsewhere in the world.

Everything is part of a project by film and animation graduate student Michael Lacanilao. "The Stairwell Project" aims to create a modern myth regarding the existence of such "magic staircase" in the school.

Check out below the said video of "stairwell illusion" as well as Lacanilao's explanation of his project:

Not shown in the 30-seconder clip, reports indicate a man, who tried to warn the woman, ran over to her to pull her out the canal.

The woman in the video was identified as Birmingham radio newsreader Laura Safe.

"I thought ice on the canal was pavement because it looked dark in the corner of my eye," Safe told UK's The Sun newspaper. "I heard a man called out "stop" to me and I looked up at him, but it was too late by that point.

She added: "I tried to get my balance and ended up slipping into the canal. But not before I'd saved my handbag and mobile phone."

Safe, who works as a newsreader for Capital FM Breakfast Show, spent more than an hour drying off and warming up in a pizza chain's toilet, where staff gave her a spare pair of shoes to wear.

Video Of Children Drinking Alcohol Goes Viral

A disturbing video of children gathering around a living room table for a drinking session has gone viral on Facebook.

In the video, about eleven young kids can be seen passing around a shot glass containing a small amount of an alcoholic beverage for each to drink his/her turn.

Apparently, adults were also in the living room when it happened. As shown in the footage, they were just watching the kids and one woman even took a photo or video of the children while drinking.

The video, which runs for four and a half minutes, has received strong condemnation from Facebook users. One said the adults in the clip should be prosecuted.

Research has shown that alcohol has negative effects on the developing brains of children.

In a 2009 interview with Guardian.co.uk, Liam Donaldson, UK's chief medical officer, said children under 15 should not drink any alcohol as it could seriously affect their brain development.

"We're trying to get the message across that children aged under 15 are still developing, their brains are developing, and drinking alcohol can do some quite serious damage."  FULL STORY...

Drunk Airport Fight: Texas A&M Fan Starts Airport Brawl

A drunk Texas A&M fan in Johnny Football shirt was caught on video starting a fight at the New Orleans airport.

Drunk Airport Fight
According to the Redditor "westtexan1" who uploaded the video on Youtube, the Aggie fan was not allowed to board the plane because he was drunk.

Below are the details of what happened next as narrated by the Reddit user:

"He got irate with the ticket counter attendant and dumped out a bag of trail mix. The black guy was waiting at the ticket counter stood up for the ticket attendant and told Johnny F’in Football to calm down. He then redirected his anger at the black guy, started dropping n-bombs and even made a comment about picking cotton.

"Fisticuffs ensued and after about 30 secs Paul Blart showed up on a segway. Luckily it was caught on video because the Johnny Football guy lied to the cops initially and said the black guy started it – upon reviewing the video evidence the black guy was exonerated and allowed the board the flight. Everyone clapped for him as he was walking down the aisle (especially me because I was flying standby and ended up getting Johnny Football’s seat!)

"Now please share with everyone you know so this drunk racist gets fired."

Sorry. The video has been removed from Youtube. FULL STORY...

Apple Store Theft Caught On Surveillance Video, Burglars Searching For iPhone 5? (Video)

An Apple Store theft was captured on surveillance video in California last week.

The footage shows a blue BMW X5 SUV crashing through the plate-glass window in the front of the Apple Store located in the Promenade Mall in Temecula at around 5 a.m. on September 6, 2012.

The SUV drove completely into the store and was trapped when the security gate fell into place behind it. Three suspects got out of the vehicle and started grabbing items off of the display tables inside of the store. For some reason, the burglars appeared to have targeted the iPhones and iPads, as opposed to the much expensive MacBook laptops.

Reports pointed out that the thieves staged their heist a week before the release of the iPhone 5. However, what they had were older versions of the iPhone, which prices have been reduced.

After they grabbed their loot, the driver then rammed the rear of the car into the closed security gate repeatedly until the entire security gate was torn apart, facilitating their exit.

Check out the said surveillance video below:

A suspect has been arrested when he apparently went back to the crime scene to look for a license plate he'd left behind. The license plate was torn from the BMW and was discovered among the broken glass and rubble.

A Temecula Police Officer, who did a pedestrian check of a subject walking in the area of the Promenade Mall, was able to determine that the subject was the registered owner of the BMW that had been used in the burglary at the Apple Store earlier in the morning.

The subject was identified as 22-year-old Equonne Howard of Los Angeles, who was on state parole. He was later arrested for burglary and booked into the Southwest Detention Center for that charge.

The blue BMW X5 SUV used in this crime was recovered from a parking lot half a mile away from the Apple Store. FULL STORY...

Dolphin Mourns Death Of Calf, Swims With It For Days (Video)

Dolphin mourns
A mother dolphin mourned the passing of her calf by carrying it on her back for days.

NDT China reported that the dolphin was spotted with her calf in Sanniang Bay of Qinzhou City in Southern China on July 8. It appeared that the adult dolphin, approximately 3 meters long, was using its back to help the baby dolphin, about 1.5 meters long, swim towards the deep sea. But it was later discovered that the baby dolphin was already dead.

"The little dolphin was dead for two or three days, but its mother still stayed with it and carried it day and night, which has touched all of us and the tourists. Just like human beings, dolphins also have feelings. A mother's love is noble and moving,"  Mr. Su, a fisherman, told NDT.

According to reports, the calf might have been hit by one of the tour boats that ferry around the well-known dolphin-watching area.

A Daily Mail report noted that the moving scene raises the question of whether dolphins are aware of their own mortality, which has long been debated by researchers.

Similar incidents have been recorded since 2007 and are seen as evidence that dolphins are capable of grief.

Meanwhile, a video of the mourning mother dolphin and her dead calf has went viral online. The video was uploaded on popular Chinese video sharing website Youku, where it has attracted more than 1.3 million views since it was uploaded a day ago.

Check out an NDT report about the dolphins below:

Marines 'Call Me Maybe' Video Hits The Web

Marines 'Call Me Maybe' Video (Youtube)
"Call Me Maybe," a smash hit by Canadian pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen, has spawned numerous viral videos of choreographed dances to the infectious song.

The latest cover of the pop anthem is hoping to boost the morale of the U.S. military.

During their limited break, a group of U.S. marines in Afghanistan quickly mastered a choreography and danced to the tune of "Call Me Maybe."

Eric Baum, an employee with the nonprofit United Service Organizations (USO), said he came up with the video with his friend and wrote the story behind the clip on his website.

"A few weeks ago, a friend of mine here in Afghanistan, Randy Moresi, approached me about the song ‘Call Me Maybe’. I had just returned to Kandahar from the US and had been taken back by how big of a hit it was, as we often miss out on the latest and greatest while in the ‘Stan and I hadn’t heard it before. She said that people were creating covers of the song, and that it would be a lot of fun for the guys and gals out here if we could create a military version.

"With a day off looming, we got to work trying to get things organized. I’ll say right now, as much fun as everyone in the video is having, these guys WORK HARD! That’s why this had to be planned out ahead of time, as we knew this would have to be fit into as little time as possible. Randy has a great relationship with the Marine command in Kandahar, and they agreed that the idea would be a great morale booster for everyone, but emphasized that they would have very limited time to do this… one hour for each group. In addition, Randy is a former cheerleader, so she got to work on choreographing a dance that would be learnable in a half hour as well as be ‘tough’ enough that a group of marines wouldn’t balk at performing it in front of the Internet."

Read more about the making of the Marines' "Call Me Maybe" video here: http://www.ericraum.com/home/2012/7/5/call-me-maybe-military-style.html
