A magnitude 5.2 and another magnitude 4.9 tectonic earthquakes jolted the Panay island in the Philippines on Tuesday morning, June 10, 2014.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismology Centre (EMSC), the first quake hit at 5:45am local time while the second occurred 6 minutes later. The epicenter of the two temblors were located at 89km southwest and 65km west of Bacolod City, respectively.

There are no immediate reports of damage or casualty from the quakes.

Located in the western part of the Visayas, Panay is politically divided into four provinces: Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo, all in the Western Visayas Region.

The Philippines is part of the Ring of Fire, a vast area in the Pacific where continental plates collide causing frequent quakes. According to past reports, about 20 earthquakes, which are mostly weak, take place in the archipelago each day.
