According to Viva Entertainment, their film earned P15 million during its first day in cinemas, which is a huge achievement for a Pinoy movie featuring showbiz newcomers.

Such result is expected only from movies topbilled by big names in the industry. Even some flicks with popular actors don't always perform well at the box office.

"Diary Ng Panget" stars newbies James Reid, Nadine Lustre, Andre Paras, Yassi Pressnan. Of the four, only Reid, who won in the hit reality show "Pinoy Big Brother," has had some level of popularity. 

The teen-oriented film is based on a popular book series of the same name, which was first published on the online writing community Wattpad. The series has been read more than 12 million times online and has topped book charts locally.
