A magnitude 3.0 earthquake jolted Negros Oriental, Philippines on Monday, July 1, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to Phivolcs, the tectonic quake, which had a depth of focus of 3km, hit at 9:26 pm and centered at 14km northwest of Valencia, Negros Oriental.

The temblor was felt in the following areas:

Intensity III - Valencia, Negros Oriental
Intensity II- Dumaguete City
Intensity I - Sibulan, Negros Oriental

There were no report of casualties from the quake. Phivolcs said damage to property and aftershocks are also not expected.

The Philippine Archipelago is part of the "Ring of Fire," an area in the Pacific where continental plates collide causing frequent quakes.
