According to reports, the 12-year-old girl brought the bag filled with $100 bills to Sixth Grade Academy in Taylor, Michigan and got the school principal's attention when she started distributing the money to other students.

The principal then notified the police, who has seized the $20K cash and now investigating where it came from and what it is for.

"The situation that took place yesterday at our Sixth Grade Academy Building was truly an unusual one. We do not have a specific protocol for this type of situation. There was no threat to the student body in the building and the matter is currently in the hands of the Taylor Police Department," Teresa D. Winnie, Assistant Superintendent of the Taylor School District, said in a statement Tuesday.

When asked about where she got the money from, the 6th grader said a playmate from her neighborhood gave it to her.
