A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Zambales, Philippines on Monday night, January 14, 2012, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin and 14km deep, hit at 7:03 p.m. and was located at 45km northwest of San Antonio, Zambales, the institute said.

Phivolcs added that the temblor was felt at Intensity II in Pasay City.

According to Phivolcs, an aftershock, which registered a magnitude reading of 4.7, followed 13 minutes later.

There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties from the quakes.

The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where continental plates collide, causing frequent earthquakes.
