Facebook charging membership fees?
A hoax is spreading like wildfire on Facebook, stating that the popular social networking site has released its membership price grid.

The scam message further states that users have to post it on their wall to avoid the "fees."

It reads: "Facebook just released their price grid for membership. $9.99 per month for gold member services, $6.99 per month for silver member services, $3.99 per month for bronze member services, free if you copy and paste this message before midnight tonight. When you sign on tomorrow morning you will be prompted for payment. It is official. It was even on the news. Facebook will start charging due to the new profile changes. If you copy this on your wall you icon will turn blue and Facebook will be free for you. Please pass this message on."

It is of course not true as Facebook has not made such announcement. And contrary to what it says, such has not been on the news.

Security vendor notes that the hoax is getting viral because it appears that some users believe they are doing their friends a favor by posting the message on their walls.

"But the truth is they're unwittingly polluting the service with poppycock and disinformation," Sophos wrote.
