Earthquake in the Philippines October 7, 2012 |
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the temblor hit at 11:14 in the morning and centered at 30km northeast of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.
Phivolcs said the quake, which was 27km deep and tectonic in origin, was felt at the following intensities:
Intensity V - Sarrat, Ilocos Norte
Intensity IV - Buguey, Cagayan; Batac, Ilocos Norte; Sinait, Ilocos Sur
Intensity III - Tuguegarao, Cagayan
Intensity II - Burgos, Ilocos Sur
The institute added that it is not expecting damage nor aftershocks from the quake.
The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where continental plates collide, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activities.
