BMW Knocks Off Toyota In New Study
BMW has replaced Toyota as the world's most valuable automotive brand in the BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands study.

BMW has risen its value to 10% over the last year while Toyota’s value has fallen by 10%, reportedly due to the effects of the 9.0-magnitude quake in Japan in 2011 which created supply chain problems, with sales and popularity suffering as a result.

The German manufacturer now has an estimated brand value of  $24.6 billion while the Japanese automaker has  $21.8 billion.

BMW was also the most valuable car brand in 2010, while Toyota held the top spot from 2006 until 2009 as well as last year.

This year, Mercedes-Benz came in third place with an estimated brand value of $16.1 billion, Honda in fourth with $12.6 billion, and Nissan came fifth with a value of $9.9 billion. The final five ranked brands include Volkswagen ($8.5 billion), Ford ($7.0 billion), Audi ($4.7 billion), Hyundai ($3.6 billion), and Lexus ($3.4 billion).

The ranking was made by renowned market research company Millward Brown, which conducts the study annually.

The BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands study takes into account what people think about the brands they buy alongside rigorous analysis of financial data, market valuations, analyst reports and risk profiles - the only valuation in the world that do so.
