After losing by 20 points (104-84) to the New York Knicks Thursday night, the team, owned by basketball superstar Michael Jordan, finished their season with their 23rd straight loss, a franchise record, and with a winning percentage of 0.106 (7-59), a new record for the worst season by an NBA team in history.
The previous record, 0.110 (9-73) ,was from Philadelphia 76ers in 1972-73.
"These last 10 games, we've really tried to get after it, compete and not get that record," said Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson after the game. "It just didn't happen for us. We just didn't have enough. We couldn't come up with the plays. When you look back at it and see we lost 59 games, you always think 'We could've won one more.' "
The Bobcats were established in 2004 as an expansion team, two seasons after Charlotte's previous NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets, relocated to New Orleans. Jordan acquired the team in 2010.
