An earthquake jolted Metro Manila, Philippines and nearby areas on Wednesday afternoon, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismology Centre (EMSC).

The EMSC recorded a preliminary magnitude reading of 4.9 on the Richter Scale and located the epicenter of the temblor at 89km West of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro or 131km Southwest of Manila. The quake hit at 5:26pm local time, it said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has yet to release its bulletin regarding the quake. The bulletin is expected to reveal the intensities the earthquake was felt in different areas, as well as whether damage and aftershocks are expected. Updates will be added on this page later.

Update: Phivolcs said the quake had a magnitude reading of 5.4 and centered at 17km Southwest of Calatagan, Batangas. The reported intensities are as follows:

Intensity IV - Tagaytay City
Intensity III - Quezon City; Calatagan, Batangas; Batangas City

No major damage is expected but there will be aftershocks, Phivolcs added.
