An earthquake with a preliminary reading of magnitude 6.1 struck the Philippines on Monday afternoon, December 29, 2014, the European-Mediterranean Seismology Centre (EMSC) reported.

The EMSC said the quake hit at 5:29pm local time and centered at 299km Southwest of Cebu City or 206km North of Zamboanga City. The temblor had a depth of 12.9km, it added.

According to reports on social media, the earthquake was felt in Zamboanga City, Cebu City, Iloilo City, Dumaguete City, Siquijor and other areas in Visayas and Mindanao.

Update: The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the preliminary Richter Scale reading of the earthquake was magnitude 6.5 and that it was felt at the following intensities:

Intensity IV - Zamboanga City;
Intensity II - Dumaguete City; Bayawan City, Negros Oriental; Iloilo City; Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental; and Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte; and
Intensity I - Lugait, Misamis Oriental and Busay, Cebu.

Update 2: Phivolcs has downgraded the magnitude reading to 6.1.

    Just immediately went to the website of PHIVOLCS but sad to know they were not able to post it ASAP...
    I just wanted to know the information about the earthquake and the next thing to be undertaken...
