A 5.9 magnitude earthquake jolted Chile on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

USGS said the quake hit at 7:11pm local time (12:11 am UTC) and centered at 71km (44 miles) southwest of Iquique, Chile. The temblor struck at a depth of 7.3 km (4.6 miles).

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake.

Chile is highly earthquake-prone. In 2010, an 8.8-magnitude quake, which struck off the coast of central Chile, triggered a tsunami that devastated several small coastal towns, killing 525 people dead.
