Freddie Aguilar Wedding: 'Anak' Hitmaker Converts To Islam, Marries 16-Year-Old Girlfriend

Freddie Aguilar has tied the knot with his 16-year-old girlfriend on Friday, November 2.

In case you're wondering how he was able to do so. The 60-year-old singer, who popularized the OPM hit "Anak," had to change his religion to Islam in order to legally wed the minor.

The Muslim Family Code of Philippines states that "any Muslim male at least 15 years of age and any Muslim female of the age of puberty or upwards and not suffering from any impediment under the provisions of this Code may contract marriage."

Aguilar, whose Muslim name is Abdul Farid, converted to Islam about six months ago, according to Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu, who stood as principal sponsor in the wedding.

The controversial couple's Muslim wedding took place at a restaurant in Buluan, Maguindanao.

The 16-year-old lady is Aguilar's fourth wife. The OPM icon separated from his third wife 10 years ago.
