Black widows were found in grapes in several supermarkets across the United States.

Reports of black widow spiders on grapes have popped up in recent months in Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and most recently in Pennsylvania.

In Missouri, a venomous black widow spider was found in a red grape container by a photographer, who purchased the grapes from the Aldi store in Chesterfield Valley on October 2. Aldi Supermarkets immediately pulled the product from its stores and warehouses in the St. Louis area and conducted an investigation.

In September, a black widow was also discovered in a shipment of grapes at a school in Maplewood, Minnesota.

Early this month, a shopper noticed a web and a spider inside the bag she purchased at a Kroger store in Brighton, Michigan.

Aldi Supermarkets also pulled all red, green and black grapes from Milwaukee-area stores after a similar incident took place at its Wauwatosa store.

Just this Thursday, a Pennsylvania woman found a live black widow in the grapes she purchased at a local supermarket.

Black widow spiders enjoy making webs in grape vineyards to capture insects and there have been reports of the spiders getting by insecticides and inspections.

Black widows can kill small children with their bites and can cause muscle aches nausea and paralysis in adults.
