A strong earthquake jolted the Philippines on Tuesday morning, October 15, 2013.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the magnitude 7.2 quake hit at 8:12am and centered at 5km east of  Balilihan, Bohol.

The quake was felt for several seconds in a number of areas in Visayas and Mindanao, including in Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, Aklan, Misamis Oriental, Butuan, Bukidnon,  Iligan, Cagayan de Oro and Davao.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where continental plates collide, causing frequent quakes.
