Free iPhone apps and games are being offered by Apple to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the App Store. Most of the said free apps and games are also available for download on the iPad.

App Store celebrates 5th anniversary with free iPhone apps
Beginning Monday, the App Store started giving away five applications and five games, which used to cost up to $20. The offer is good for a "limited time" only, so iPhone and iPad users who are interested in it should move sooner rather than later.

"From the 500 apps available at launch in 2008 to the more than 900,000 at your fingetips today, it's been a remarkably prolific five years for the App Store. To celebrate, we're giving everyone five landmark games and five groundbreaking apps for a limited time," Apple said in a statement.

Check out below the list of free apps and games offered by Apple App Store on its fifth anniversary:

Free iPhone/iPad Apps:
Barefoot World Atlas (was $5) - Learn about the world, its nations and its wonders through this dazzling interactive globe. 
Day One Journal/Diary (was $5) - Record momements every day using photos, places and words with this intuitive journal. 
How to Cook Everything (was $10)- Learn to cook more than 2,00 gourmet recipes using this robust kitchen companion.
Over (was $2) - Help your photos stand out by adding custom captions, logos and stylish doodles. 
Traktor DJ HD For iPhone (was $20) -Mix like a pro with a DJ app that puts industry-leading features right at your fingertips.

Free iPhone/iPad Games:
Badland (was $4) - An Apple Design Award winner, Badland is an incredible action game with stunning graphics.
Infinity Blade II (was $7) - With smart gameplay and gorgeous graphics this action-packe epic absolutely shines
Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery (was $5) - This Elegan 8-bit adventure uses touch-based pussles to deliver a poignant story.
Tiny Wings HD (was $3)  - This endearing classic features charming style and thrilling momentum-based gameplay.
Where's My Water?  - A simple and challenging puzzle game that features intuitive controls and a lovable mascot.

According to Apple, App Store downloads surpassed 50 billion in May and that it has paid over US$10 billion to developers in June.
