Over 100 aftershocks were above magnitude 3.0, including four between the magnitudes of 5.0 and 5.9, it said.

Officials said there have clearly been more aftershocks following the Sichuan earthquake than other quakes of similar magnitude.

According to latest data, the death toll from the 6.6-magnitude quake in Lushan county in Sichuan province has climbed to 193, with 25 still missing. Some 12,300 were reportedly injured during the quake.

The epicenter of Saturday's earthquake was about 130 kilometers southwest of the 8.0-magnitude quake that also struck Sichuan, at Wenchuan county in 2008, which killed over 69,000 people.
