A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Mindanao, Philippines on late Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to Phivolcs, the quake hit at 5:51pm and centered at 6km southwest of Carmen in North Cotabato. The temblor, which was 9km deep and was tectonic in origin, was felt at the intensities:

Intensity V - Carmen, North Cotabato
Intensity III - Kidapawan City, Davao City, Cotabato City, Cagayan de Oro City; Makilala, Kabacan, Pikit and Matalam,
Libungan, North Cotabato; Datu Odinsinsuat, Maguindanao
Intensity II - General Santos City; Magpet and M'lang, President Roxas, North Cotabato; Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao; Libona, Bukidnon;
Butuan City; Iligan City

There were no immediate reports of damage and casualty from the quake.

The Philippine Archipelago lies in the "Ring of Fire," an area in the Pacific where continental plates collide, causing frequent quakes.
