A 13-year-old adopted son of a photographer never had newborn photos. When the latter mentioned she was preparing for a newborn's photo session, the former said he wished he had baby photos of himself.

Professional photographer Kelli Higgins, 33, granted her son's wish and recreated a newborn photoshoot for him.

"I was very sad too because I didn’t have any photos of him. I think it’s really hard to have children and not know what they looked like when they were younger," Higgins told TODAY.com.

The next day, Higgins and her 13-year-old son, Latrell, found themselves in her studio, both laughing hysterically the whole time, she recalled.

On January 29, Higgins posted Latrell's "newborn" photos to her Facebook page, adding a mock birth announcement.

"Here's my sweet not so little Newborn! His name is Latrell and he weighs 112lbs," Kelli wrote.

The photos of 13-year-old Latrell depicting a "sleeping" newborn have since become viral on the popular social networking site. As of this posting, the photos have amassed more than 12,000 likes, 5,000 shares and 2,000 comments from other Facebook users.

Higgins and her husband Daniel, 35, welcomed Latrell and his younger sister Chanya, 12, to their Crestview, Fla home, two years ago. The couple already had five biological children, with a sixth one on the way, but admits they have a yearning to adopt.

"These children, once they get past a certain age, they don’t find homes and they age out of foster care," Higgins said. "They have to figure out the world on their own and there’s no one to go back to as an adult. Where do you go for Christmas? It’s just horrible, it’s heartbreaking."

TODAY reports that more older children have become available for adoption in the past ten years.
