Mr. Bean Rowan Atkinson's $1.4M car repair claim set a new record as the most expensive payout made by a car insurance company in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Bean's $1.4M car repair claim, biggest in UK
Insurers coughed out a whopping $1.4M for the repair of Mr. Bean's rare McLaren F1, which the actor crashed for the second time in 2011.

The huge bill is three times the previous biggest payout, a whooping $470,000 to fix a wrecked Pagani Zonda sports car in 2010.

McLaren F1 expert technicians spent four weeks to calculate how much Mr. Bean's super car would cost to rebuild before coming up with the staggering $1.4M. It reportedly took them a year to make repairs on the wrecked car.

Mr. Bean's insurance company gave a green light  to the mammoth job as the value of all F1s has soared in recent years, with one model selling for $5.5M last year.

It can be recalled that the 58-year-old actor met an accident while driving his sports car in August 2011.

The vehicle reportedly spun around several times, ran into a tree and a lamppost and caught fire. The back of the car was destroyed while the 6.1litre engine ended up 20 yards away.

Mr. Bean was able to get out from the vehicle, suffering a shoulder injury.

Sixteen months after the accident, Mr. Bean is now back on the road in the car, which he described as like "putting a familiar sweater on".

"The McLaren is just so usable, it is a crime not to use it," the actor said. "No gritted teeth, you just get in and drive."
