A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off Davao del Sur, Philippines on Saturday afternoon, February 16, 2013, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs located the epicenter of the temblor at 46 km northeast of Sarangani, Davao del Sur.

It added that the tectonic quake, which hit the area at 12:37 PM, was felt at the following intensities:

Intensity IV - Mati & Taragona, Davao Oriental; General Santos City; Digos City; Sulop, Malalag, Sta Maria, Davao del Sur
Intensity III - Davao City
Intensity II - Valencia City, Bukidnon; President Roxas, North Cotabato; Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, Cotabato; Butuan City
Intensity I - Cagayan de Oro City; Malaybalay, Bukidnon

There has been no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the quake.

The Philippine Archipelago is part of the "Ring of Fir," a zone of tectonic activity around the Pacific Ocean that is subject to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
