New horror movie "Mama" topped the North American box office charts on Friday after raking in $10 million in ticket sales.

According to reports, the Jessica Chastain-starrer is on track to earn around $30 million during its opening weekend.

Directed by Andres Muschietti, "Mama" follows the story of two young girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed. When they are rescued five years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night - their Mama.

Another film of the award-winning actress, the controversial but critically-acclaimed "Zero Dark Thirty," took the second spot with $4.55 million.

Rounding the top 5 were "Broken City" ($3 million), "Silver Linings Playbook" ($2.954 million) and "Gangster Squad" ($2.665 million).
