A single mom allegedly used her status to avoid giving a tip after enjoying a lavish $138 meal.

Single Mom No Tip Bill Goes Viral
A photo of a bill which has a handwritten note that reads "single mom sorry" has been making the rounds in social media sites. Also at the bottom of the bill are the words "Thank you it was great."

The pic was first uploaded on Reddit, where it received thousands of comments.

Reddit user PhoenixSongFawkes, who posted the photo, wrote, "I'm sure $140 could have gotten you and your kids a week worth of groceries, but instead you spend it one one meal?! For shame!"

The Redditor added that it was not the lack of tip that upset him, but rather the fact that the woman took the time to whine about being a single mom —and then added insult to injury by saying the service and the meal were fine.

"It was to show that someone was ridiculous enough to come into a place, and use the fact that their a single mom to not tip. Then to say everything was great." PhoenixSongFawkes wrote.

Other users were also outraged by it, musing on the woman's excuse as well as whether or not the waiter was right to complain.

"I'm a single Mom, and this is bullshit. What exactly are you teaching your kids? ... Dear Parents of all kinds - your kids are watching you and learning," RedheadedBanshee wrote

Many said that if the single mom can't afford a gratuity, she should not have gone out to eat at all. Some users were also questioning the legitimacy of the bill.

  1. Ok before I say this I am not a raciest person im just stating a fact. i worked delivering pizza for five years and me and a cpl of drivers kept count of who tipped and who didnt . and this is how it worked out . 83% of whites tipped something, while only 8% of African Americans tipped . So im curious if the lady who left this was black r white ? And before you say anything about drivers getting the delivery charge we dont we got maybe $1 per run not per delivery and we drive our own cars and buy our own gas. plus we ran the risk of being robbed and killed .
