The 40-year-old minister from Tennessee, who needs a wheelchair to move around, showcased a heartfelt rendition "Wind Beneath My Wings," winning the judges' hearts.
The obese man received four yeses from the judges and is off to the next round of the competition, the Bootcamp.
Simon Cowell challenged him to get healthy enough to sing standing up next time instead of in his wheelchair.
Combs nearly died in 2009 when he weighed 920 lbs.
