Ni Hao The Cat survives 3-week trip across the Pacific
A young cat survived a 3-week voyage from China to U.S. without food and water.

Named Ni Hao, the cat was trapped in a storage container in Shanghai and was discovered at the Port of Los Angeles three weeks later.

Ni Hao was found on July 11 emaciated and with considerable muscle atrophy affecting his gait. He underwent treatment at the Carson Animal Care Center for two months. He is now 5 months old and is healthy 4 1/2 pounds.

While at the center, Ni Hao became a media darling. Several new agencies from different countries visited him.

Over 80 individuals also applied to adopt the stowaway cat. After a review of each application and a home visit to the top choices, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control chose a family in the LA suburb of Redondo Beach, who has not been further identified.

Ni Hao is scheduled to be picked up by the family this week.
