Jennifer Price and husband Daniel welcomed their identical triplets Daniel Jeffrey, Ryder James and Garrett Cambell at a hospital in Harrisburg on Tuesday, June 5th.
The three boys were born just a minute apart, at 8:42, 8:43, and 8:44.
Identical triplets are extremely rare. The Multiple Births Foundation estimates that triplets occur once in every 10,000 naturally conceived births, but the odds of having identical triplets are 150,000 to 160,000.
Identical triplets occur when one fertilized egg splits to create three separate embryos. Non-identical triplets occur when three separate eggs are fertilized.

ReplyDeleteI keep hearing it's rare but I know two people with identical triplets personally, and have heard of several others as well!

ReplyDeleteThat's not that bad.. I was thinking something like 10 to 500000. ._.
In 2009 there were 4.1 million births in the U.S. If one out 150,000 were identical triplets, that means there are about 27 such births per year, give or take.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! And there is still no explanation of why or how an already fertilized embryo splits into identical twins or triplets!
