Green Lantern Gay (DC)
Green Lantern is gay, DC Comics announced on Friday.

Green Lantern will officially come out as gay in the second issue "Earth 2" due out next week, DC said.

The "reveal" will reportedly be rendered visually with a welcome-home kiss from the character's handsome, dark-haired friend named Sam and the line: "...God, I’ve missed you."

Robinson added that there is only one Green Lantern in the upcoming series and it's Alan Scott.

"Oh, and on Earth 2 there is only one Green Lantern, so Alan's title is The Green Lantern." he said. "Alan's sexuality is just one facet of him, along with his innate goodness, valor, charisma and skill at leadership that makes him the perfect man to wield the power of the green light in the world of Earth 2."

"Before starting work on #1, the first document I had to work from was the character breakdowns for our primary players,” continued "Earth 2" artist Nicola Scott. “With Alan the brief was very clear. He needed to be a big, strapping, handsome man that everyone would instinctively follow and love. No short order but right up my alley. Alan strikes me as an incredibly open, honest and warm man, a natural leader and absolutely the right choice to be Guardian of the Earth. His sexuality is incidental. Every time I draw him I love him even more."

This is just another example of gay and lesbian characters taking more prominent roles in the medium.

Other gay superheroes include Northstar, one of the X-Men in the Marvel Universe, who will marry his longtime boyfriend in the pages of "Astonishing X-Men," and Kate Kane, DC's current Batwoman, who is a lesbian.

  1. It is impossible to imagine a more insidious form of child abuse than to portray sexual perversion as normal to children.
