Donald Duck Holocaust Controversy
Donald Duck screamed "Holocaust!" instead of "Congratulations" in a German edition of a Donald Duck comic book recently, sparking controversy.

The incident, according to the Telegraph, "prompted humours accusations over the political leanings of Donald Duck and his cartoon cohorts in the German press" and "revealed the occasional perils of reusing aging cartoons in different cultures."

Publisher Egmont Ehapa said it was a printing error and that it has promptly recalled the book. It also promised that a new version will be released this week.

The German publisher added that "Holocaust" was used in the original English comic to mean "inferno" or "blaze." In a scene, a duck dignitary is honoring a team of firefighters for pinpointing the "awesome Holocaust."

However, it said that the error was not in translation as it has been very careful about avoiding sensitive terminology. It explained that mistake came up during production, when the English text in the word bubbles was not thoroughly removed.
