| Cannes Film Festival celebrates 65th anniversary this year |
The Palme d'Or was awarded to Austrian director Michael Haneke for his film "Love." Haneke won the same award back in 2009 for "The White Ribbon."
"Love" follows the story of an elderly couple whose relationship is tested when the wife suffers a series of strokes.
"This film is an illustration of the promise we made to each other, if either one of us finds ourselves in the situation that is described in the film," said Haneke.
The Grand Prize, considered the competition's second place, went to Matteo Garrone's Italian satire "Reality," while Ken Loach's "The Angels' Share" took home the Jury Prize.
Carlos Reygadas bagged the Best Director trophy for the surrealist tale "Post Tenebras Lux."

* Best Actress - Cosmina Stratan and Cristina Flutur in "Beyond the Hills"
* Best Actor - Mads Mikkelsen in "The Hunt"
The prize winners were chosen from among 22 contenders by a jury, led by Italian director Nanni Moretti. The jury also included actors Ewan McGregor and Diane Kruger, director Alexander Payne, fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, among others.
The 65th annual Cannes Film Festival was held in France from May 16 to May 27, 2012.
