Suez Canal achieved LE 122 million on Wednesday, April 4, its highest recorded revenue for a single day since 2011, according to Suez Canal Authority Chief Ahmed Fadel.

Fadel added that the international waterway also hit a record in terms of the number of transiting vessels.

There were 59 ships that transited the Suez Canal that day which carried 3.47 million tons of cargo. The north-bound convoy included 29 ships, while the south-bound convoy included 30 vessels.

A vital source of foreign currency in Egypt, the waterway also helps the nation's tourism, oil and gas exports and remittances from Egyptians living abroad.

The canal's unique geographical position makes it of special importance to the world and to Egypt as well.
