Pacquaio Tax Case Update
Boxing champ and Sarangani Congressman Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is asking the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to give him more time to present his tax records after the agency filed contempt charges against him for failing to submit the documents despite three notices and a subpoena.

In an interview with GMA-7, Pacquiao said a miscommunication or an honest error could have been committed by his staff and stressed he has no intention of violating any BIR regulation.

"I already sent a staff member to the BIR office. But if they (BIR officials) saw something wrong, I wish they would give us enough time to correct it," the lawmaker said.

According to BIR Commissioner Kim Henares, Pacquiao  is being sued for violation of Article 266 of the National Internal Revenue Code because the boxing champ continued to ignore the BIR's requests for his contracts.

He, however, clarified that Pacman is facing contempt charges, not tax evasion charges.

"We haven't reached the point that he is evading taxes. We are asking him for copies of his contracts to different companies, which he has not given or has refused to give," Henares to dzMM.

An ABS-CBN report said that the BIR wants to investigate 33 tax records, including Pacquiao’s 2010 income tax return, his book of accounts, list of assets, as well as his earnings from his fights against Antonio Margarito and Joshua Clottey.

Pacquiao is also being asked by the agency to produce 29 copies of his endorsement contracts. -NoypiStuff
