Official Statement from Christopher Lao
4 August 2011

The past few days have been very disheartening for me and my family. As you know I have been a subject of a viral video that showed my helplessness during a trying moment. As it stands right now, I have several hate pages in Facebook and Twitter with hurtful and derogatory messages attacking my person. The reputation that I built the past years has been besmirched. A bad day has now turned into wounded feelings and sleepless nights for me and my family.

I have been silent the past few days as I want this to go away soon but not before saying sorry and thank you to people who matter.

I would like to apologize for my behavior that was seen on nationwide television and now on the internet. It was unfortunate that I was caught on camera immediately after an overwhelmingly stressful mishap. noypistuff

I would like to again sincerely thank those who braved the flood to help a distraught stranger like me. Their selfless act reminded me of how dependable Filipinos are in times of crisis.

Lastly, I would like to thank my family, friends and all of those who showed empathy, consideration and support throughout these trying times. You have given me strength and courage to rise above and be a better person.

Sincerely yours,

Christopher Lao

  2. I'm sure he will now learn to think before he speaks.

  3. He's not humble. He's been humiliated.

  4. Hopefully with this experience he'd stop acting so entitled.

  5. To Mr. Christopher Lao we do not hate you but may this experience teach you a very valuable lesson in humility. It's alright to be brave but sometimes you just have to take a step back you took a chance unfortunately you have to pay the price just learn to "suck it up" and move forward.

  8. Admit it or not, this incident happens at least once in our lives. So unfortunate for him, it was caught in camera and Being a UP law student, himself, made it even worse.

  9. People have no right to judge him. He has my respect. It was a lapse in judgment and all the cyber bullies have no business thinking they would have known better.

  10. It was character exposed. Mr. Lao dont worry about us whom you offended with your high sense of entitlement. Worry more about yourself. You have a huge job to do for yourself. Good Luck.

  11. Well said Mr. Lao! Although let this serve as a lesson that when faced with a similar situation where in you are at fault, be a man and accept responsibility and most definitely don't blame others for your own actions. Aside from that, I admire the statement that you have just made and don't worry, in time this will all die down. And you will continue to be smart and become a good lawyer. Haha. Good luck in your endeavors!

  12. the whole incident shows maybe he's bobo, but then again it exposes alot of racists and bullies in this country. and I also wonder how many of these people who call him stupid are really considered smart. so one guy makes a mistake on national TV, big deal, who is perfect. dami dyan kung makacomment kala mo perfecto sila

  13. "I have several hate pages in Facebook and Twitter with hurtful and derogatory messages attacking my person" - (personality ata) okay na sana, wrong gramming lang =)

  14. Too bad your actions were magnified by the media Mr. Lao. I was turned off by your reactions because to react that way (and in front of the camera!) can speak a lot about your character. Sorry if I'm judging you though i have no right because i don't know you. But be brave Mr. Lao. It may take some time for things to heal but there are still more important things in the world to focus on. Yours is just a speck of it. Good thing Zubiri's issue is also hot at the moment. It's not the end of the world Mr. Lao. Try to get some sleep and maybe sucking it up and finding humor from your experience can help lift things up.

  15. ^ gaga, kung di mo alam ang expression na "attack on one's person" manahimik ka na lang, kumuha ka ng dictionary at magbasa ka. tangina, ano yung "attack on my personality"? that's so weird sounding. bobong to, mangko-correct ka pa.

and for your information, assuming it's an error, it's not one of grammar but of diction (diction means word choice).

  18. natawa naman ako dun sa "attack on my [personality]"

nakuha pang mag-correct. isang malaking LOL

  19. professors from UP should probably teach their students not only law stuff, but manners and humility that they may need in times like this. let this be a lesson to everyone that before you complain, you should think at one point, you your self is part of the sh*t list which are the primary reason why things are not going the right way. and as the old cliche' said, if you point your finger at someone, the rest are pointing at you, its just a matter of being aware.

  25. Dear Mr. Lao,

Apology not accepted. Bakit?

"The reputation that I built the past years has been besmirched." Nagpapakahumble ka na di ba? There's no need to tell us that you had built a reputation. Porke ba law student ka at sa U.P. pa? Un bang ibig mong sabihin? I can still sense arrogance and cockiness sa statement mo.

You know, I was somewhat like you three years ago. Matalino ako eh, magta-top nga ako dapat sabi nila. Kala ko rin akong may-ari ng mundo. But when I took the bar and flunked it, nagising ako sa katotohanan. Tao pa rin pala ako, vulnerable.

I pity you Mr. Lao, pero in a way masaya rin ako para sa sarili ko at para sa ibang flunkers kasi because of what happened to you, nalaman ng buong mundo na d naman talaga sukatan ng pagkatao na estudyante o graduate ka sa UP/Ateneo o abogado ka o kahit sino ka pang gago jan.

What's important is how you treat other people and how you live up to the values of INTEGRITY, HONESTY, and most of all, HUMILITY. Tska FYI lang ha, from prestigious universities galing parati mga leakages sa bar exams kaya the Philippines continuously produces incompetent and stupid lawyers.

    Truly yours,

    Atty. Humble

  28. I guess it was a very "humbling" experience for you Mr. Lao. How do yo spell HUMILITY? Simple!

  30. All people made mistakes in their lives. Unfortunately, you are caught on a camera with your blame shift reaction of your mistake. This is the carnal reaction of most people when in trouble. Blaming others rather than looking at your own fault. I hope this will teach you a lesson to be a good lawyer. That those people who are really at fault will be penalised and not shifting the blame to the innocent ones.

  33. But with all fairness to Mr. Lao, he is just a victim of the situation. Don't judge the person as if we know him very well,it happens and it might happen to us.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The use of "attack on my person" is correct. he is a law student, and he is using the word "person" in a legal and formal context.

    Hay, mga tao nga naman.

  41. Mayabang ka pa rin! Even with this sorry ass statement you still managed to show your arrogance.

I agree hindi sya bobo. He just made one stupid decision which so happen to be caught on cam. Just hope magbago na sya. I don't want him to be a professional lawyer with that kind of an attitude.

At sa mga racist. Wala pong piniling lahi ang katangahan.
