A group of Sinulog attendees wearing "I Love 2Go" tank tops reportedly got booed during the festival's grand parade over the weekend.

According to reports, they took the Sto. Niño from a woman wearing a costume, allegedly the Sinulog Festival Queen, and asked her to take a photo of them. Other spectators found it disrespectful and thus, they gave them a loud boo.

Photos of the incident have made their way online, amassing more negative comments from netizens.

"These 2GO models forgot what the festival is all about," Twitter user @pastor_ey said. "I'm not a Catholic but IMHO (in my honest opinion) what they did was disrespect."

"Shame. You don't do that to the sinulog festival queen!," @smithered tweeted.

Chang Euldan, who posted the photos on his Facebook account, wrote the following as caption, "Nakaangkon ug daku nga #BOO sa mga katawhan sa granstand ang float sa 2GO Travel! Grabe pagka displeased sa mga manan-away sa #sinulog tungod ang festival queen maoy ilang gipa shoot atubangan sa libuan ka mga tawo atol sa ilang parada! Makalagot gyud kaayo tan-awon! Walay mga disiplina ilang mga models!"

(The float of 2Go Travel received a loud boo from the crowd. Spectators were displeased because they asked the Festival Queen to take a photo of them in front of thousands of people. It was so irritating to see. Their models don't have discipline.)

Having able to see them in person a couple of times, NoypiStuff instantly recognized two of the men in the photos as members of the Philippine Volcanoes, the national rugby team. Based on a quick search on the athletes' social media accounts, the lady with them is a former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate and a Miss Earth-Philippines runner-up, who is a Cebuana.

Update 1: We noticed that the woman wearing a costume and identified as the "Festival Queen" in the photos does not have the same costume as the Festival Queen, who was crowned a few days prior to the parade. It is possible that she's just a delegate of 2GO as well, who was aboard 2Go's float, and not the winning lead dancer, the real Festival Queen, who was dancing the entire parade. We are still verifying this.

  1. I felt the same thing when they displayed themselves infront while yung festival queen nasa likod nila natatakpan. Nakita ko yung tao na taga 2go din sumisigaw sa baba instructing them na ung festival queen yung sa harap, sa likod sila...unang narinig nung model na girl tapos sinabihan nya yung ibang lalaking models. Pero they took pictures of themselves tapos deadma na nila yung instruction. Kawawa yung festival queen, di nakikita tapos inuutusan lang mag picture picture sa kanila... I thought ako lang nakapansin na bastos sila...di naman sila sikat, ni di ko nga sila nakikita sa tv or sa kahit anong show.

  2. They were taking pictures of each other. The girl in festival costume was not the festival queen. She was merely wearing a costume on top of the float. The post is taking the incident out of context. Equally irresponsible.

  3. Please be responsible. Why are you making us believe that the girl is a festival queen? She may be wrong but she was eagerly taking the picture. Too eager perhaps but not somebody embarrassed. Why? Because she was taking pictures of Philippine rugby players, the Volcanoes together with a PBB housemate and Miss Earth runner-up.

  4. Unlike the other article that I read, this one was written in a rather objective manner. The update also made me think before making a conclusion. Kudos!

  8. With all respect, WHAT IS ALL THE RANTING ABOUT????

I am so confused right now. I mean, come on, they probably meant no disrespect to whoever the person was, they were all just having a good time because of how fun the Festivity was. And if they knew, which they obviously didn't, that the Sinulog Queen was supposed to be respected "LIKE A SAINT" then they would not have done it since no one in their right minds would even dare be that disrespectful.
    IMHO

If that's the festive Queen, and she deserves all the respect like you all are saying, then why is she even walking all on her own????
Why not give her a VIP treatment then?

That is what's making me confused right now. And I believe that my realization would make you think again.

  11. Here is a brief history for the role of Queen Juana former name Hara Humamay wife of Rajah Humabon.

On April 15, 1521, the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived and planted the cross on the shores of Cebu, claiming the territory for Spain. He presented the image of the child Jesus, the Santo Niño, as baptismal gift to Hara Amihan, wife of Rajah Humabon. Hara Humamay (or Amihan in some versions) was later named, Queen Juana in honor of Juana, mother of Carlos I. Along with the rulers of the island, some 800 natives were also baptized to the Roman Catholic Church. At the moment of receiving the holy image, it was said that Queen Juana danced with joy bearing this image of the child Jesus. With the other natives following her example, this moment was regarded as the first Sinulog.

This event is frequently used as basis for most Sinulog dances, which dramatize the coming of the Spaniards and the presentation of the Santo Niño to the Queen. A popular theme among Sinulog dances is Queen Juana holding the Santo Niño in her arms and using it to bless her people who are often afflicted by sickness caused by demons and other evil spirits.

EVen if its just a representation of Queen Juana role during Sinulog festival you have to respect our cebuano culture for this event.

yip, some floats walang sinulog queen and some float has its own sinulog queen. She is still a Sinulog queen for the 2go float but not the crowned Sinulog queen for 2014

  12. We are there when we say she's not the real festival queen. However, regardless of her the real festival queen or not, the mere fact that she's dressed as one, everyone should respect the image behind it. I'm a muslim myself but I find this deed very disprectful. Let's think about it, people attend Sinulog not just to watch the glamorous costumes and presentations but the real reason is to be thankful to HIM.
To those 2GO models, they might have not been oriented (if they thought that Sinulog is just everything about fun on the streets) about the essence of Sinulog. Meaning, the HR of 2GO or whoever is incharge should have set the right expectations to these people, especially that this dragged the name of a company under Service Sector. We are just crossing our fingers that not just 2GO company but everyone would get the lesson from this.
