Box Office Results: 'Resident Evil 5' Takes Top Spot

The weekend box office results have been released and they show that another "Resident Evil" franchise opened at the top spot for the 4th consecutive time.

According to estimates, Sony's "Resident Evil: Retribution," the fifth installment of the film series, raked in $21.1 million on its opening weekend in the U.S., taking the number 1 spot.

The 3D revival of the Disney animated movie, "Finding Nemo," is second with $17.5 million while Liongate's horror movie, "The Possesion," is third this week after grossing $5.8 million in ticket sales.

A new teaser trailer for the highly anticipated "Resident Evil: Retribution," has made its way online.

In "Resident Evil: Retribution," the Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella's most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex.

Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true.
