Mary Jane Veloso Execution Postponed |
According to Indonesian TV reports, eight of the nine scheduled executions pushed through. Veloso reportedly received a last-minute reprieve after Maria Kristina Sergio, the woman who allegedly tricked her into bringing a luggage with illegal drugs into Indonesia, turned herself in to authorities in the Philippines Tuesday morning.
Veloso was arrested at the Yogyakarta Airport in 2010 after she was found carrying 2.6 kilograms of heroin in her luggage. She, however, denied being a drug mule, saying she was tricked into bringing the luggage by Sergio without knowing it had illegal drugs.
