Typhoon Glenda has caused the death of at least ten individuals, government authorities reported Wednesday, July 16, 2014.

Typhoon Glenda 2014 Death Toll Rises To 10
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), a certain Lourdes Lim, 25, was killed after being hit by a falling electric post in Allen, Samar, while 49-year-old Reynaldo Meneses was crushed to death by a falling acacia tree in Barangay Tabang, Plaridel town, Bulacan.

In Cavite, three persons including a senior citizen, 22-year-old man and an 11-month-old baby girl were killed. The 22-year-old victim died after being hit by a falling post while the senior citizen was crushed to death when hit by a tree while the infant died after being hit by debris from a collapsing retaining wall. No other details were immediately available except all three victims died on the spot.

Meanwhile, in Lucena City, Quezon, three people all surnamed Artificio were crushed to death after they were hit and trapped by a falling wall.

The NDRRMC said 33,802 families were forced to evacuate by nationwide.

As of 4pm on Wednesday, the eye of Typhoon Glenda was located at 160 km West of Olongapo. Packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kph and gustiness of up 170 kph, it is moving Northwestward with a speed of 24 kph. It is expected to be at 450 km West of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning.
