July 29, 2014 is going to be a regular holiday in the Philippines.
President Benigno Aquino III has just signed Proclamation No. 826 which declares Tuesday, July 29, 2014 a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid'l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan).
The declaration of the holiday aims promote cultural understanding and integration and to bring the religious and cultural significance of the said Muslim holiday to the fore of national consciousness.
According to Section 1 of Republic Act No. 9177, the approximate date of Eid’l Fitr may be determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient.
Eidul Fitr is the first day marking the end of the 30-day fasting period of Ramadan.
