A sinkhole was discovered in Bantayan, Cebu on Saturday, July 26.

Cebu Sinkhole 2014: Huge Hole Opens Up In Bantayan
Officials said the 40x40 feet sinkhole appeared in Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Langub, Kinatarkan Island, Sta. Fe town in Bantayan.

The local government unit has since erected a 200-meter perimeter fence around the sinkhole and has evacuated residents to a safer area.

A team from the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office is now assisting the 30 families who were affected.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau and Office of Civil Defense is expected to conduct an assessment on the sinkhole to determine the next actions that can be done.

Kinatarkan Island is one-hour boat ride away from the mainland town of Sta. Fe.
