Tropical Depression Agaton has moved towards East Southeast while maintaining its strength, the PAGASA said Monday, January 20, 2014.

In its 5am bulletin, the state weather bureau said Bagyong Agaton was spotted at 230 km southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 230 km east of Davao City (7.0ºN, 127.9ºE) at 4am. Packing maximum winds of 55 kph near the center, the cyclone is forecast to move west southwestward at 5 kph.

Tropical Depression Agaton is expected to be at 140 km Southeast of Davao City or at 185 km Southeast of General Santos City Tuesday morning, at 60 km East of General Santos City by Wednesday morning, and at 140 km Southwest of General Santos City by Thursday morning, PAGASA said.

Public Storm Warning Signal Number 1 has been hoisted over Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Compostella Valley.

PAGASA added that Agaton will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Northern Mindanao and the rest of CARAGA region. The estimated rainfall amount is 5–15 mm per hour (moderate-heavy) within the 300 km diameter of the cyclone.

Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and CARAGA region, it further stated.
