Guinness World Records confirmed Wednesday that Dubai easily broke the record for the world's largest fireworks display, which was set by Kuwait during its golden jubilee anniversary which set off 77,282 firework.

Dubai used over 500,000 fireworks during the 6-minute display on New Year's Eve, which was synchronized to Arabic pop music. Enough fireworks were launched to surpass the previous record within the first minute of the show alone.

Ten months in planning, the spectacle covered a distance of over 95 kilometers of the city’s seafront. Its final salvo of fireworks created an artificial 'sunrise' along the seafront, with the highest fireworks reaching more than one kilometer in height.
