A magnitude 4.2 earthquake jolted Pangasinan, Philippines on Wednesday night, December 18, 2013.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the temblor hit at 10:46pm and centered at 4km southeast of Binalonan, Pangasinan. The tectonic quake was also felt in other areas including Metro Manila.

Residents of the cities of Baguio, Caloocan, Dagupan and Mandaluyong felt it at Intensity III, while  those from Quezon City, Pasig City, Gapan City, and Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija felt it at Intensity II. Intensity I was felt in Lucban, Quezon.

Phivolcs said it is not expecting major damage from the quake nor aftershocks.

There were no immediate reports of damage and casualties as well.

The Philippine archipelago sits on the Ring of Fire, an area in the Pacific where volcanic activities are frequent. About 20 earthquakes are recorded in the Philippines each day but most of them are weak.
