PAGASA has hoisted Public Storm Warning Signals (PSWS) over the following areas:
• PSWS #2 (Winds of 61-100 kph is expected in at least 24 hrs): Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands; and
• PSWS #1 (Winds of 30-60 kph is expected in at least 36 hours): Apayao, IIocos Norte, Abra, Kalinga, Isabela and Batanes Group of Islands.
The government agency said Typhoon Odette, which is packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph, will yield an estimated rainfall amount of 15-20 mm per hour (heavy-intense) within the 600 km diameter of the cyclone. It warned residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signal #2 and #1 to stay alerted against possible flash floods and landslides. Those living in coastal areas under signal #2 were likewise alerted against storm surges.
It added that Bagyong Odette will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and Zambales and Bataan. Residents in these areas were also advised to be alert against flashfloods and landslides.
PAGASA further said that sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Occidental Mindoro and Palawan and over the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon and of Visayas.
Bagyong Odette is expected to be at 340 km East of Aparri, Cagayan by tomorrow morning and at 80 km South of Basco, Batanes by Saturday morning. By Sunday morning, it is expected to be at 310 km West of Basco, Batanes or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
