Two robbers ended up at a KFC restaurant, after attempting to break into a jewelry store next door by tunneling through a wall.

Police say the pair tore down the toilet block at the rear of the connected shops in Beaudesert, Australia and used an iron bar to hack into a fibro wall, creating a small tunnel through which they crawled.

Apparently their calculations were wrong and instead of landing in Wrights Jewellers, the thieves found themselves in the local KFC, where they encountered restaurant staff.

Peter Welsh, 32, and Dwayne Doolan, 31 made the most of their situation by staging an impromptu hold-up. They were able to escape with $2,600.

The robbers were arrested and charged with the New Year's Eve robbery on Wednesday after police raided Welsh's home.

According to the police, the toilet block tunnel was the pair's third attempt to break into the jewellery store that day.
